Getting from Girona to Barcelona.
If you’re on a flight that arrives at Girona ariport and you are travelling onto Barcelona you need to leave the airport arrivals hall, turn right and walk down to the small ticket booth where you can buy a ticket. This is also the place where the coaches arrive to /depart from.
This is probably the quickest way to get from Girona to Barcelona, as otherwise you’ll have to get the bus into Girona train/bus station and then take the fast train into Barcelona. Taking waiting times and journey times into account this could add another 45-60 mins.
The Girona to Barcelona ticket costs about 12€, which takes you to Barcelona’s main bus station, called Estacio del Nord. The bus timetable is run alongside the Ryanair schedules so you should’nt have to wait too long.
If you want to take the train to Barcelona you’ll have to get to Girona train station and take the fast train called the Catalunya Express (journey time about 1hr.15), about 20€
However, if you want to get into Girona city from the airport you need to take the Barcelona bus that leaves about every 25 minutes usually on the half-hour. This journey takes about 20 mins and takes you to the main train, bus and coach station called Estacio de Girona. A single ticket costs 2.60€
Update Jan.2009. As a result of a lot of new building and construction work going on at Girona airport the Barcelona buses are now situated to the right of the arrivals hall as you exit the building.

From Girona to Barcelona by train.
The best, and stress free way is to catch the Catalunya Express, denoted by a CE when you view the timetable, which is on a small board inside the train station. There’s one at least every hour and the price is about 20€ for an adult return ticket. The train journey takes about 1 hr.15 and stops at Caldes de Malavella, Sils and a couple more others.
At the time of writing this there’s some train works going on as you approach Barcelona and the last stop is Barcelona, Estacio Francia. To get to the Rambla from here and the main shopping areas takes a 15 min. walk. The last train back to Girona is at approx. 9.24pm.(we travelled on a Sat.) This kind of rules out having a late night in Barcelona!
One useful point to add here is that the ticket counter at Girona’s train station does not accept any credit or debit cards, so you’ll have to pay for any train tickets by cash (ATM’s are located inside the building), or use the automatic ticket machine. The train station does close at night and the ticket office for buses is next door.
